A sinister attack shook Dupnitsa. A 26-year-old woman, a future doctor, was stabbed during a robbery in the “Rila“ park. She was placed in “Pirogov“, where she underwent a five-hour life-saving operation, NOVA reported.
The attack took place in the early hours after a celebration for February 14. The two women were in a gazebo in the park when at around 4 a.m. an unknown man approached them with a knife. He demanded their money and threatened them. After hitting one of them in the face, he stabbed her in the stomach and took a total of 230 euros, then fled.
Four days later, the perpetrator was detained. The police reported that during the search, numerous recordings from private and public cameras, including municipal ones, were reviewed.
The case raised the issue of video surveillance in the city. The mayor of Dupnitsa, Parvan Dangov, said that the cameras in the area of the “Rila“ park were working and the recordings were reviewed by the police. According to him, there are about 60 cameras operating in the city, which have been gradually replaced with digital ones with municipal funds. The old analog devices had low signal quality.
However, residents of Dupnitsa expressed doubts about whether the system is being used effectively and whether the control is sufficient, especially in the dark.
District Court – Kyustendil left the man permanently in custody on the grounds that there was a real danger that he would commit another crime, given the demonstrated impulsiveness.
The mayor emphasized that the park is not a dangerous place, but at 4 a.m. the risk is higher. He called on citizens to be more careful and self-preservation.
