Strategic importance for Bulgaria
With the signing of the Joint Statement, Bulgaria will establish itself as a key transit and infrastructure country within the Vertical Gas Corridor - a strategic initiative for the supply of natural gas from south to north to the markets of Central and Eastern Europe. The document emphasizes the need to optimize economically efficient and sustainable natural gas markets, while fully utilizing and expanding the existing infrastructure, removing non-market barriers to competitive pricing, incl. removing regulations that would hinder gas imports, the construction of new gas infrastructure and the long-term stability of natural gas trade.
Through the joint statement, the participating countries declare their intention to strengthen Europe's energy security by ensuring stable and sustainable supplies from reliable and diversified sources, removing Russian supplies from the Community's energy balance and promoting the strategic partnership between Europe and the United States of America.
