The efforts of the acting Minister of Justice Andrey Yankulov were correct, in the right direction. They could continue. This was commented by Anton Stankov, former Minister of Justice, in the program "The Day Live" on Nova News.
We recall that the Plenum of the Supreme Judicial Council left without consideration the proposal of the acting Minister of Justice to appoint a new temporary Prosecutor General.
According to him, Minister Yankulov has one more move. "He can propose a titular person for the position of Prosecutor General. From what we saw today, it is clear that such a person will not be elected. But the efforts are worth it to outline the positioning in the Council", Stankov pointed out.
"This is another example of bad legislation, because it allows for interpretation in one direction or the other. My view is that the one who can choose the incumbent can choose the acting prosecutor general - the Plenum of the Supreme Judicial Council. In this case, my colleagues have decided that they are not competent", he added.
According to him, Minister Yankulov did not rush into calling a meeting of the Supreme Judicial Council to choose a new acting prosecutor general. "He reacted adequately and immediately", he believes.
"There is a deep gap between the Court and the Prosecutor's Office regarding the acting prosecutor general. The Court has ruled several times at different levels that the acting prosecutor general is not like that. A gap has resulted, from which citizens suffer. Specific people cannot receive protection," the former justice minister also said.
And he added: "The problem has not been solved, because there is no new Supreme Judicial Council elected, no Inspectorate elected. The entire state is performing its functions. I hope that after April 19 a new majority will emerge, I hope it will be stable and decide. But at this point I do not see a solution. But the issue is political".
He also commented on the composition of Andrey Gyurov's official cabinet. "The composition is interesting, diverse. A level of expertise was sought. God forbid that they fulfill their main function under the Constitution - to guarantee fair elections.
Regarding the "Petrokhan" case, Stankov said: "The society does not have the full amount of information that the experts and investigators have. It is hasty to give assessments. To me personally, it looks like a clearing of witnesses. The question is what they witnessed - it's definitely some kind of criminal activity, but I don't know".
Stankov also specified that he does not believe in the suicide version.
