The Central Election Commission (CEC) has appointed the composition of the regional election commissions (RECs) for the early parliamentary elections on April 19. The decisions were voted on at today's CEC meeting.
The REC is appointed for all multi-mandate regions in the country, which are 31 in number.
According to the election schedule and the Electoral Code, the regional governors hold consultations on the composition of the RECs, but in recent days no agreement has been reached for most of the commissions. When no agreement has been reached or the regional governor has not made a proposal for the composition of the REC, he immediately sends the documents to the CEC. When agreement is reached on the composition, the regional governor makes a proposal to the CEC.
The REC consists of a chairperson, deputy chairpersons, secretary and members. The regional election commission exercises its powers for a period from the day of its appointment until 14 days after the elections.
The composition of the RECs is to be published on the CEC website, BTA reports.
