Krum Zarkov: Sarafov must come out and say who the political ruler is - 1

BSP leader Krum Zarkov called on magistrates and politicians who are subject to pressure or threats with compromising material to come out and speak publicly. On the air of “Hello, Bulgaria“ on Nova TV, he stated that publicity is the only way to stop such practices.

In his words, if there are compromising materials against certain representatives of the judiciary or politics, they will sooner or later become known. “Those who are threatened should know that if there is something about them, it will come out anyway. The only means of protection is publicity“, Zarkov emphasized.

He also commented on the upcoming meeting of the Supreme Judicial Council, stating that the BSP has reservations about the caretaker cabinet, but believes that the actions of the Minister of Justice Andrey Yankulov should be supported.

Zarkov also pointed out that Bulgarian society has already “broken the special immunity“, behind which politicians have been hiding for a long time. According to him, public opinion remains the strongest corrective of the government.

The leader of the Socialists also called on the acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov to give public explanations. According to him, Sarafov is the person who knows the most about what is happening in the system. "He should come out and say who the political ruler is," Zarkov said, adding that he fears Sarafov has become a "hostage" in the Prosecutor General's office. According to him, the behavior of prosecutor number 1 is difficult to explain, because - as an experienced lawyer, he should be aware when the law is being violated.

According to him, the problem is systemic and is related to the capture of the prosecutor's office. "When personnel decisions are made in this way and work is done in this way, no Bulgarian can be sure that a given case will really be investigated," he said.

Zarkov's comment comes after the interview in "Na fokus" with the temporarily suspended Bulgarian European Prosecutor Teodora Georgieva, who stated that there is an institutional problem in the Prosecutor's Office related to appointments to high positions. She announced that she had filed a report with the Minister of Justice about possible crimes in office, which she believes were committed by Sarafov. Georgieva emphasized that she respects the presumption of innocence and her allegations are subject to proof. The prosecutor also pointed out that the crimes she reported were committed against her, which is why she spoke openly and by name.

The early elections

Regarding the upcoming parliamentary elections, Zarkov stated that the BSP would enter the new parliament and emphasized that the party had distanced itself from the project “BSP - New Beginning“. According to him, the Socialists will work to ensure that this political formation does not repeat itself again.

He also commented on relations with President Rumen Radev, noting that the BSP's position is clear, since the party supported his election as president. "However, we have yet to see what his attitude towards the socialists is," Zarkov added.

According to him, President Iliana Yotova is currently the most authoritative socialist in the country.
