The Sofia Municipality is updating the traffic organization on the main roads to Vitosha with the aim of better traffic management, easier access to the mountain and a safer environment for visitors.
In the period December 1 - March 31, on weekends and holidays, the entry of private cars on the Boyana - Ofeliite and Dragalevtsi - Aleko hut roads is restricted. The restriction applies in the time interval 11:00-16:00, when traffic to the mountain is most intense. The measure aims to reduce traffic jams and chaotic parking around chalets and tourist sites, as well as to ensure the normal movement of public transport.
The update also introduces more specific mechanisms for managing access during congestion or risky situations. When parking capacity is full, adverse weather conditions, mass visits or events occur, law enforcement agencies may temporarily restrict access to individual sections of the Vitosha road network.
There is also the possibility of introducing temporary traffic closures in the event of snowfall, icing or the need to clean the road, as well as a ban on staying and parking at night between 22:00 and 06:00, in order to ensure timely cleaning and traffic safety.
At the same time, access is maintained for public transport, the Mountain Rescue Service, as well as for the official cars of chalets, tourist sites and support teams.
In parallel, the Urban Mobility Center will monitor the transport situation and, if necessary, provide additional buses so that visitors to Vitosha have a convenient alternative for transportation.
The goal of the changes is better organization of traffic, less congestion during peak hours and a more pleasant and safe environment for all who visit the mountain.
