Our participation is in contradiction with the principles on which Bulgarian foreign policy and international relations are based - respect for international law and the UN Charter. This is a strategic and fundamental issue that must be referred to the next National Assembly, which would have the weight and legitimacy to decide on it, and in times of dynamic and unpredictable geopolitical processes.
The so-called Peace Board has nothing to do with the UN Security Council Resolution of November 2025. With it, the UN regulates the creation of a Peace Council - as a body, an interim administration of Gaza - with a mandate until December 31, 2027. While the Board is an initiative outside any legitimate international legal framework. This is not a body, but a type of organization. The power is concentrated in one person, the mandate is for the whole world, not for Gaza. There is an unlimited time horizon for action, and this one person determines the participants, the conditions for work, and has the right to veto all decisions.
The EU member states reacted cautiously and with deep reservations.
Against the backdrop of the escalating war in the Middle East, the question of Bulgaria refraining from participating in such initiatives that are unclear in terms of both goals and principles is even more acute.
