BSP-OL presented the lists. Zarkov: We will be at the forefront of the fight against the vicious model of governance - 1

“We are at an important stage of our new path as a party. A path that can, must and will lead us to the only worthy place for a left, socialist force - the leading place in Bulgarian politics.“. This was stated by the Chairman of the National Assembly of the BSP Krum Zarkov at the National Conference of the coalition “BSP-UNITED LEFT“ before the upcoming parliamentary elections.

He emphasized that Bulgaria has an objective need for the left. “No one else can fulfill the duty to Bulgarian citizens, to working people, people who need support and people who want to see our society more just and united. They all need us and we have no right to let them down.“, Zarkov was categorical.

He also pointed out the path for the BSP - to change itself in order to change Bulgaria. “Let's turn it into a fair state, in which no one is above the rules and in which Bulgarians see their home”, said the socialist. According to him, Bulgaria should be a state of access - to education, healthcare, justice, as well as one of balance between powers. “Institutions should not hinder citizens, instead of helping them, and no self-forgotten snot should command us.“, added Krum Zarkov.

“Last but not least, it is our duty to transform Bulgaria into a country of peace, which realizes that war is the greatest misfortune, not a geopolitical toy“, said the Chairman of the BSP National Assembly.

Krum Zarkov pointed out that since the winter of 2025, our country has not been the same. “Bulgarian citizens have shown that they will not tolerate lawlessness, arrogance and addictions. And we in the BSP were the first to demonstrate that we are and will be part of this new Bulgaria. And now we, once again, are the first to appear before Bulgarian citizens with our lists, without hiding or bothering, in order to put an end to a vicious governance model. He started with a proud promise to push barbecues and crush corruption and ends up stumbling into Pepi Euro's couch, sitting on it and sinking deep. We are putting an end to this and we will be in the forefront of this victorious struggle.“, said Zarkov.

He categorically rejected the claim that there is no need for ideology in politics. “Behind every decision in parliament there is an ideological leaven and behind every vote – an idea. If we are not guided by it, but only by the current, this is not change, but continuation, as before. There is no tailwind for someone who does not know the direction. And as my university professors used to say – if someone says they are neither left nor right, then they are right.“, Krum Zarkov pointed out.

According to him, the goal of the BSP-OL is to solve the real problems of Bulgaria, not the invented ones. “A large majority in Bulgaria does not accept inequalities, corruption, total injustice. Yes, this is not an electoral majority behind the left, but this is the place where we feel best. We are changing the agenda of Bulgarian politics and this is the way to achieve our goals. Our topics are becoming and will increasingly become topics of society.“, he was categorical.

The Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly of the BSP and Chairman of the Sofia Socialists Ivan Takov said: “For more than 35 years we were forbidden to dream. We were told that we live in the best of all possible political systems, that neoliberal politics and the state have no alternative. As a result, Bulgarian industry was cut up for scrap, knowledge, health and culture were turned into commodities for trade, and society was divided into a small stratum of the very rich and a vast majority that looks with anxiety to its tomorrow. It is high time to put an end to this disintegration.“

According to him, another Bulgaria is possible. “A social and left-wing state in which the economy works for society, not for a few millionaires. A state in which labor is dignified and protected. A state that cares for people, not for profits, and in which tax responsibility is fairly distributed between those who have and those who have not“, he stated.

The President of Bulgaria (2002-2012) Georgi Parvanov and honorary chairman of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences emphasized that the answer to the question “What is the purpose of the left?“ is clear - to restore the image of the BSP - OL as a strong formation that is capable of solving the problems of the people and the state.

„We have a strong and convincing list and platform that other parties cannot compare with. With this, the BSP can lead the entire coalition forward.“, he was categorical. In his words, only the BSP-OL can bring political stability to change. According to him, all other parties on the political terrain are opponents of the left.

The national conference of the BSP-UNITED LEFT was held in the presence of hundreds of socialists and sympathizers of the left - representatives of the BSP leadership and its coalition partners at the national, regional and municipal levels, mayors and deputy mayors, municipal councilors. At the conference, the Chairman of the BSP National Assembly Krum Zarkov also presented membership cards to newly joined young socialists.
