Significant excesses of the norms for the content of petroleum products in the soil were found at the site of the train crash near the Simeonovgrad village of Pyasychevo.
The Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water (RIOSV) in Haskovo has prepared and uploaded to its website a draft order for the implementation of remedial measures to eliminate the environmental damage.
On August 15, 2025, at around 5:20 a.m., a train with 34 wagons - tanks with diesel fuel derailed near the village. Eight of the tankers caught fire, fuel spilled on both sides of the railway line.
The soil samples taken showed that the maximum permissible and intervention concentrations of naphtha were exceeded on an area of about three acres. Samples were also taken from other areas near the scene of the incident, but they did not show any deviations from the norms.
The draft order states that the railway carrier, owner of the cargo - "Bulmarket Rail Cargo" EOOD, should undertake the so-called "bioremediation" - soil treatment with microorganisms that break down pollutants, followed by biostimulation, bioaugmentation and intensification, BTA writes.
