In the midst of the election campaign, this week we witnessed another appearance of the prosecutor's son in Pernik. While he was declared a state wanted man, Mihaylov tried to set fire to the house of police officers from the Directorate for the Prevention of Corruption and Organized Crime.
For eight months now, he has been unable to be caught, after he was released from court on bail and disappeared, bTV recalled.
Convicted multiple times, and accused of at least 8 cases of assault with moderate bodily harm, the son of the Pernik prosecutor Biser Mihaylov appeared in yet another physical altercation - and now, while he was declared a state wanted man and has been missing for 9 months.
A police officer was attacked in his home in the Pernik village of Lyulin. The wanted prosecutor's son was one of the attackers, according to the Ministry of Interior:
„They tried to attack the Ministry of Interior employee with batons. The police officer shot in the air. The attackers then fled in the car, but they drove over a dirt road that was difficult to pass. Then they decided to abandon the car“, said Interior Minister Emil Dechev.
“He went to the home of the father of the Ministry of Interior employee in question. In my opinion, the target was the father, i.e. the relatives of the employee in question who worked. This speaks of a lack of any kind of correction“, said lawyer Zornitsa Kostova.
Zornitsa Kostova is a lawyer for several of Vasil Mihaylov's victims. With her, we are looking for an answer to the question of why, after a series of cases, accusations, arrests, convictions and searches, the prosecutor's son from Pernik continues to create unrest for years? And from the obscurity in which he is while the Ministry of Interior is searching for him?
The first known case of an assault inflicted by Vasil Mihaylov in the media is from
August 31, 2021 - in Sozopol, when a conflict broke out in an establishment. The tourist Petar Gyurov was hit. Detained as the perpetrator. The prosecutor's son was accused, but admitted his guilt, entered into an agreement with the prosecutor's office and was released with the light sentence of "probation" - to regularly sign in at the special service for the purpose. Less than a year later, when the young man was arrested for assault and threatening to kill in Pernik, for which again after an agreement with the prosecutor's office, Mihaylov received a suspended sentence and was again free.
This was followed by the assault on football coach Rumen Andonov from Pernik, admitted to "Pirogov" with a broken jaw. His wife, Mariana Andonova, is among the first to speak publicly about the prosecutor's son.
Thus, several more accusations of beating the prosecutor's son appear, and he is again accused - under house arrest.
The case of Mihaylov's ex-girlfriend also comes to light, who tells bTV that she was beaten and threatened with murder by him.
The case against Mihaylov once again combines several cases and last year resulted in a sentence... of imprisonment, which Mihaylov appealed. At the same hearing, however, the judges accepted that the prosecutor's son was not in danger of hiding or committing a new crime, and while the case is ongoing, they released him on bail.
How the court decided this, lawyer Kostova still cannot explain to this day.
„At that moment, he had already been convicted. On the other hand, there were many cases in which Mr. Mihaylov showed with a very rude demonstration that house arrest was not a working measure for him“, said attorney Zornitsa Kostova.
Released on bail, Mihaylov is not only hiding, but is also accused of new crimes - for racketeering, assault and kidnapping.
“The verdict was pronounced on April 11, 2025. On May 9, 2025, his visit to a car service took place with a demand to pay a certain amount. This case is known in the public. Then in June, the kidnapping of my next client Pavel Pavlov occurred“, said attorney Zornitsa Kostova.
According to Pavlov's report, he was kidnapped by the prosecutor's son, beaten in a wooded area and forced to sign a document that he owed him money. It was then, in June last year, that Mihaylov disappeared - to this day. And days after he was declared wanted, he published a video.
Lawyer Kostova says that she has medical documents that prove that Pavlov's injuries did not occur before his meeting with the prosecutor's son.
In the cases against Vasil Mihaylov, many prosecutors and judges in Pernik recused themselves due to the fact that his father, Biser Mihaylov, is a prosecutor in the Pernik prosecutor's office. The cases are being heard in courts outside the city, and the defense is often changed, as lawyers also refuse this service.
We sought out one of them, Nikolay Tsvetkov, but he refused to comment on the saga surrounding Mihaylov. His known victims, as well as new complainants, also declined our invitation for an interview.
According to attorney Kostova is talking about fear, she also points out legislative obstacles to adequate criminal prosecution:
„When a person is convicted multiple times in different courts, with different sentences at a time when all cases are concluded - the so-called cumulation is mandatory. This means that all these sentences are combined into one. The convicted person actually suffers a single punishment. Which will deter the commission of multiple crimes with the clear idea, the clear awareness that a single punishment will be suffered.“
And so far, the prosecutor's son Vasil Mihaylov is being sought without being found.
„The search was also carried out by national search authorities. And this turned out to be ineffective. It is unpleasant to say, but this problem exists. And this is the leakage of information. The problem is at the low level. It is precisely those who are directly involved in the search, for me the leakage of information is precisely there“, said attorney. Zornitsa Kostova.
