NRA and CPC with intensified inspections: Fines for nearly 1 million euros and strict price control before Easter - 1

The National Revenue Agency and the Consumer Protection Commission are launching large-scale inspections for unjustified increases in the prices of goods and fuels in our country. This was announced by the Executive Director of the NRA Milena Krastanova and the acting Chairman of the CPC Alexander Kolyachev.

„We have become acquainted with the results of the inspections carried out by the NRA and CPC in connection with the Law on the Introduction of the Euro in the Republic of Bulgaria. Violations have been found, for which acts and penal decrees have been drawn up. The fines imposed by the NRA alone so far amount to over 930,000 euros”, Milena Krastanova announced.

She emphasized that the state is closely monitoring the fuel situation as a result of the conflict in the Middle East. “Our plans for follow-up actions are related to monitoring the supply chains of goods in order to establish whether and where the unjustified price increase is”, added the NRA director.

From April 1, the CPC launched a specialized campaign aimed at goods traditionally sought after for the Easter holidays - eggs, kozunac and lamb meat.

”I call on traders to comply with the law and not to raise prices unreasonably. We will use the full force of the law to impose administrative sanctions. Fines can reach up to 50,000 euros for the first violation and up to 100,000 euros for each subsequent one”, warned Alexander Kolyachev.

Kolyachev noted that at the moment wholesale fuel prices do not give grounds for a rise in retail prices. However, the state is ready to react to speculative behavior. Through the specialized website “How much does it cost” the institutions monitor price movements daily, and in the dairy sector certain increases have already been identified, which will be the subject of additional analysis.
