Traffic has been restored at the Tsareva Livada - Tryavna Interchange. On Saturday morning, April 4, rocks collapsed in front of the Ruse - Plovdiv express train, after which the locomotive derailed, and three passengers were injured, bTV recalls.
The work on withdrawing the locomotive and restoring the railway line continued until about 6:30 p.m. yesterday. The locomotive that derailed was towed to Tryavna station and will most likely not be restored, but will be used for auto parts.
The three injured passengers who were taken to the Gabrovo Hospital have been released for home treatment, and the remaining passengers were taken to their destinations. The heroes of the incident are the two train drivers, thanks to whom no more serious consequences resulted.
“In a right curve, immediately after the bend, we saw a fallen rock mass. We immediately reacted with everything we could, stopped the train and succeeded. We are alive and well, only the locomotive derailed“, the train drivers told the bTV team. They added that if they had not taken immediate action, after 20 meters there would have been a precipice and the consequences would have been tragic.
The Mayor of Tryavna Dencho Minev commented that the institutions responded adequately to the crisis situation and thanks to the rapid coordination between fire safety, the National Emergency Service and emergency services, the necessary measures were taken.
„The blessing is that there were no victims. In this situation, all institutions responded quickly and adequately. An ambulance team was provided. The heroes are the two train drivers who managed to react so that there were no victims, only slightly injured. This line is key for Tryavna and Gabrovo. People use it to travel to their workplace. A prevention analysis should be conducted. The question remains to make a detour of the entire route and take preventive measures,“ said the mayor.
