“There is an increase in the number of pre-trial proceedings initiated for election crimes“, announced Acting Interior Minister Emil Dechev. He spoke to journalists during the break of a national meeting with the regional directors of all regional directorates from Southern Bulgaria and the management team, including heads of regional departments, heads of sectors, departments, etc.
"We have noted once again, following the statistics in the Geographic Information System very carefully, that the number of signals now, compared to October 2024, when the last parliamentary elections were held, has increased by several hundred percent. This is an unambiguous signal that there is increased public trust in the new leadership of the Ministry of Interior and people see the point in taking the trouble to file a report with the Ministry of Interior about a crime against the political rights of citizens related to the elections," Dechev pointed out.
The number of persons detained in connection with these proceedings has increased by several hundred percent, as well as the warning protocols not just for all crimes, but specifically in connection with election crimes, Dechev added.
Acting Secretary General of the Ministry of Interior Georgi Kandev supported the minister's words with figures. 13 days before the elections, the reports of election violations are 1,094, compared to 147 in the 2024 elections.
