Gold bars and jewelry worth over 161,000 euros were seized at the Kapitan Andreevo Customs Office  - 1

Undeclared 400 grams of gold bars and over 830 grams of gold jewelry were seized by customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo Customs Office during two separate inspections of a passenger car and a bus entering the country from Turkey.

In one of the cases, on 03.04.2026, a passenger car with a foreign registration arrived at the office. In the car, driven by S.D. - a Dutch citizen, two other foreign citizens were traveling from Turkey via Bulgaria to the Kingdom of the Netherlands. They all stated to the customs officers that they had nothing to declare.

After a risk analysis, the vehicle was selected for a thorough customs inspection. During the control actions, two small red textile bags were found in S.D.'s handbag, one of which contained 6 bars, and the other contained 16 bracelets, all made of yellow metal. According to the expert examination, the bars were made of 24-carat gold weighing 400 grams, worth 51,860 euros, and the bracelets were made of 22-carat gold weighing 320.40 grams, worth 48,060 euros.

The undeclared gold bars and bracelets were seized.

A pre-trial investigation was initiated by an investigating customs inspector under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office - Haskovo. The 33-year-old citizen of the Kingdom of the Netherlands was brought to criminal liability for a crime under Art. 242, para. 1, letter “D“ and under Art. 251, para. 2 of the Criminal Code. A measure of restraint "Cash guarantee" in the amount of 3,000 euros was taken against her.
The other case in which undeclared gold jewelry was found was from 31.03.2026 during an inspection of a bus with a foreign registration, in which 18 passengers were traveling from Turkey through Bulgaria to Romania.

Customs officers carried out personal examinations of a man and a woman - Romanian citizens. It was established that articles of yellow metal were hidden in the pockets of their jackets. According to the expert assessment of the expert, the articles found were 22, 21 and 14-carat gold. In the pocket of the lady's jacket, a package wrapped in transparent tape was found containing 25 gold bracelets with a total weight of 256.30 grams worth 30,360.98 euros, and in the man's jacket - a box with 261 grams of rings, medallions, earrings, bracelets and a necklace worth a total of 31,130.90 euros.
The violators were issued administrative offense acts under the Customs Act.
