„Bulgartransgaz“ EAD will provide the necessary quantities of natural gas for the technological needs of the gas transmission system by conducting a tender procedure for the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG), the company announced. This will be the first time that the operator has used such a mechanism to ensure technological processes.
For the period from July 2026 to September 2027 inclusive, the company plans to purchase a total of 1,500,000 megawatt hours of liquefied natural gas, BTA reported.
The procedure will be carried out in compliance with the requirements of the Energy Act through an organized stock exchange on the trading platform of “Gas Hub Balkan“ EAD. It is planned that the supplies will be made through the liquefied natural gas terminal in Alexandroupolis, Greece, in which “Bulgartransgaz“ EAD has a shareholding.
Only companies with proven experience in the supply of liquefied natural gas will be allowed to participate, after prior approval by the platform operator. The requirement for candidates is to guarantee that the origin of the gas is from countries that are not subject to international sanctions.
The Executive Director of “Bulgartransgaz“ Vladimir Malinov pointed out that the procedure aims to ensure the reliable provision of the technological needs of the system in full transparency and compliance with European market principles.
“Supplies of liquefied natural gas from secure partners such as the USA and other countries are a key element for achieving diversification and increasing energy security for both Bulgaria and the region“, said Malinov. According to him, the company is sending a “clear signal to the market“ that it is working for secure and transparent supplies at competitive prices.
The pre-selection procedure will be held from April 9 to 24, 2026, and the auction is scheduled for April 30, 2026 from 09:00 to 12:00 (Eastern European Time) through the platform of “Gas Hub Balkan“ EAD.
