The co-chairman of “Democratic Bulgaria“ Bozhidar Bojanov made a detailed analysis of the election results, emphasizing that despite the increase in votes for the coalition, the result cannot be considered a success.
“We have 62,000 more votes than we had last time. However, we cannot consider this a success in any case. We cannot pat ourselves on the back and say “bravo to us”, Bojanov told bTV.
According to him, the formation has failed to convince voters that it is capable of being an instrument for real change. “We failed to convince people that we are the tool that can largely dismantle the model of the conquered state“, he said.
Bozhanov pointed out that part of the reasons were internal problems in the campaign. “We could have conducted the campaign much better – in places it seemed disjointed, with different colors, different slogans, different programs“, he explained and added that these weaknesses must be addressed.
According to him, a significant part of the voters supported Rumen Radev's formation because of a “more convincing request“. “The vast majority of people supported Radev, who came with the same requests“, Bozhanov pointed out.
Bozhanov stressed that the coalition must prepare better organizationally. “We need to present ourselves in a way that will make a convincing statement to a wider circle of voters that we can exercise power – seriously, competently and unitedly“, he said.
On the topic of preferences, Bozanov denied that there were any instructions to voters. “We have no such agreement and I do not know that Assen Vassilev has made such a decision“, he said.
He also commented on his position on the lists: “This is not narcissism. This is another anomaly arising from the way the lists are arranged“.
Regarding the results of GERB, Bozanov said that the responsibility lies entirely with them. “GERB's loss is GERB's responsibility, because they failed to separate from Peevski personally at Borisov's will“, he pointed out.
According to him, the dependencies in the government were visible. And all GERB decisions depended on Peevski.
He also commented on the possibility of interaction with the new majority: “We are in opposition. This does not mean that we will not have initiatives and priorities“.
Bozhanov emphasized that the formation will support specific policies when positions coincide. “He (Rumen Radev) does not need our votes. We will support the right things and will be a sharp opposition to the wrong ones“, he stated.
He singled out judicial reform as a key priority. “The election of the Supreme Judicial Council should take place as quickly as possible, with adjustments to the rules“, said Bozanov.
Regarding the election process, Bozanov said that the party will continue to insist on machine voting. “We can have much fairer elections with 100% machine voting“, he pointed out.
At the end of the conversation, he also outlined a symbolic priority: “Finally, Peevski's and Borisov's security should fall. Let's stop with these privileges“, said Bozanov.
He emphasized that the role of the opposition will be to monitor the dismantling of the model and prevent its reproduction.
