Mikhail Zaimov passed away today, after a long serious illness, his family told BTA.
He is an artist, photographer, journalist, TV presenter, writer and sea traveler, popular as an underwater photographer with his many exhibitions in Bulgaria and around the world.
Mikhail Zaimov was born on March 16, 1967 in Sofia. He graduated from the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He is the author of books, including “Black Sea Dialogues“ and “Sozopol in Images and Words“, in which he combines photography and text. “At times I searched for an answer to the existential question - is it within the power of one person to change such a space along with the centuries-old energies haunting it? The lonely man against the backdrop of eternity is extremely pitiful. During my half-century of existence, I have tried to win friends and meaningful people for the Sozopol cause“, commented Zaimov regarding the photos and stories from Sozopol.
In the more recent stage of his career, he has expanded his thematic and visual range, moving away from the exclusive focus on underwater photography. Indicative in this regard is the exhibition “200 Moments of Reality“, presented at One Gallery. In it, the author works with photographs, often taken with a mobile device, and emphasizes the changed nature of the image in the digital age. “Through these photographs, I want to show the things I cannot say“, says the author at the opening of his exhibition “Devon“.
