Landslide closes part of Struma Motorway - 1

The section of the Struma Motorway between Simitli and Blagoevgrad in the direction of Sofia will remain closed for at least two more weeks due to an active landslide. The incident occurred a week ago, with the compromised section posing a risk to passing vehicles and requiring urgent safety measures.

There were problems on this road section even before its official commissioning. Work was being carried out on the route until the last before the opening of the lot in February last year, Nova TV specifies.

Currently, traffic between Simitli and Blagoevgrad is being redirected along the renovated E-79 road. In the meantime, experts have already prepared a geological report on the causes of the landslide.

„These are overmoistening of the slope due to heavy rainfall and the still unstrengthened root system of "the forested trees", explained the director of the Regional Road Administration in Blagoevgrad, Eng. Rosen Markov. According to him, three main recommendations have been given - demolishing the slope, installing high-strength nets and improving drainage. "We cannot commit to an exact deadline, but it will certainly take more than 10 days", he added.
