It is very unlikely that such a landslide can be prevented. This was stated in the program “Wake up” by the regional minister Nikolay Naydenov.
He explained that this is a geological and hydrogeological problem. The landslide was reinforced 20 years ago.
“The old reinforcement was intended to hold back the water. For me, this is not a good approach. The water must be drained properly so that the supports do not have to cover such a huge mass of land, "commented Naydenov.
According to him, the landslide is so large that factors such as a single construction cannot have such an impact.
„The entire Rhodopes is a special region in terms of geology and hydrogeology. Such processes occur constantly. The population in the municipality of Smolyan and other municipalities is used to this,”, Naydenov also commented.
The problem is that the road is very important. Experts from the regional ministry are already going to the site today to see if a bypass can be made.
