Over 85 kilograms of drugs worth more than 3 million euros were found in a truck at the port of Civitavecchia, Italy. A Bulgarian citizen was behind the wheel and was arrested on suspicion of international drug trafficking, Italian media reported, quoted by Nova TV.

According to information from “Corriere della Sera“ the truck arrived in Civitavecchia by ferry from Barcelona. The inspection was carried out by officers of the financial police of Rome and the Italian “Customs“ Agency.

The investigators' attention was drawn to the results of a risk analysis carried out with the assistance of the economic and financial police unit in Milan. According to “Corriere della Sera“ The Bulgarian driver also showed visible concern during the document check. This prompted the officers to undertake a thorough inspection and completely unload the semi-trailer.

Two dogs of the financial police were also used during the search - Ice and Frida. They directed the officers to the floor of the semi-trailer, where a special double cache had been built.

Inside, the investigators found 53 vacuum-sealed packages of marijuana and 26 packages of cocaine. The total quantity of the seized drugs exceeds 85 kilograms, and according to the assessment of the Italian authorities, their value on the illegal market is over 3 million euros. The information about the double bottom and the quantity of drugs was also confirmed by “Repubblica“.

The Bulgarian driver was detained on suspicion of international drug trafficking. He was taken to prison in Civitavecchia, where he remains at the disposal of the local prosecutor's office. The truck and the discovered drugs were seized.
