Recognition of an independent A Palestinian state would only complicate the conflict in the Middle East, said Prof. Iskren Ivanov, an expert on international security and conflict management, in the program "Bulgaria, Europe and the World in Focus". p>
"There is a consensus in Israel that whoever comes to power does not have the historical and political prerequisites for an independent Palestinian state to exist. Even if the Palestinian state is recognized, it is unlikely to end the conflict in the Middle East. It is quite a separate issue that this could further worsen the relationship between Israel and some other European countries, regardless of who is in power in the Jewish state. Because the state of Israel, itself in no way – we see, already so many years, so many decades, so many mediators – in no way until now has formed a concept for the resolution of this conflict, which would include the recognition of an independent Palestinian state," explained Prof. Ivanov.
According to him, even if the Palestinian state is recognized by several countries of the European Union, there is no guarantee that in this independent Palestinian state we will not have the political influence of terrorist groups in the region: "As it was until now with "Hamas" , who controlled about 70% of the country's political life", asked the international analyst.
Assoc. Iskren Ivanov pointed out that "cutting off the head” of a terrorist organization leads to the hydra effect - something worse can come in its place: "Hezbollah can mobilize, God forbid there can be a war between state actors in the region. So – yes, the lessons of the American interventions in Iraq and Afghanistan clearly point to the fact that absolute victory against terrorist organizations can hardly be achieved. However, the question is to what extent there will be a consensus in the US for the recognition of such a state, because this could turn out to be a lever in the wheels of relations between the US and the European Union.
