Six fire engines from Polski Trumbesh and Gorna Oryahovitsa are extinguishing a fire that has covered several hundred acres of agricultural land between the road and the railway line between Polski Trumbesh and the village of Strahilovo, BNR reported.
The fire was lit in the afternoon.
"A stubble has caught fire, the fire has covered about 800 acres of it. The fire has already been contained. 6 fire engines are working at the scene. There is no danger of anything else nearby catching fire. There will be no need to close the road," said the spokesperson of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Veliko Tarnovo Mariyana Hristova.
Suggestions are that the fire could have been caused either by a spark from the brakes of a train set, as the burning farmland is next to the railway line, or by an unextinguished cigarette thrown from the train.
Firefighting continues. There is no danger to the population, the authorities assured.
