Sofia City Court set a measure of remand "detention under guard" for Evelin Banev - Brendo, Nova TV reported.
According to the court, when the prosecutor learned that it was possible to conduct proceedings for the measure of arrest under the European arrest warrant, Banev was in prison. Although the court initially described the prosecution's request as “nonsense”, it later decided that it was necessary to take a measure of custody. Panel fears that he may be released before the actual trial is over.
The prosecutor's office said that two warrants had arrived from Italy and Romania. Although Brendo is in the Central Sofia Prison, the prosecutor's office believes that he is in danger of absconding, because of the possible hypotheses that he will be released early and there will not be enough time for a new trial. Banev's actions are characterized as dangerous, and it is not clear how he arrived in the country, added the prosecution.
Banev's defense stated that the hypotheses for early release, expressed by the prosecutor's office, are an uncertain future event. And more - the suspension of the punishment is after the sanction of the district prosecutor.
Attorney Naydenova also recalled that on 24.06.2024, Brendo voluntarily surrendered to the authorities of the State Department of Internal Affairs. On the same day, the SGP imposed a sentence of 6 years of imprisonment. On the same day, Banev filed a request for the cumulation of the sentences from Italy and Romania, for which he has a total of 30 years of imprisonment.
Earlier, Brendo was brought to court on “Cherkovna” with a convoy of two buses of court security.
