The necessary number of doctors for the future children's hospital is 309, and the nurses – 454. This was said by the Acting Minister of Health, Dr. Galya Kondeva, during the meeting of the parliamentary committee on health care, BTA reports. The report prepared by the European Investment Bank was presented at the meeting. More than 260 additional hospital support staff will be needed in the treatment facility.
„There is a public discussion of the project of the structure and our desire is to have a final concept regarding the capacity of the hospital by the end of August,” Minister Kondeva added. According to her, another report is yet to be drawn up - on the functionality of the future hospital.
Without the support of the parliament and the people's representatives, we could not implement this project, if we accept it as a final concept, she added and pointed out that the main challenges are related to the fact that some of the proposals for the future children's hospital will require legislative changes .
The report proposes the introduction of day care, the creation of a day hospital, the practice of telemedicine, “withdrawal“ of hospitalizations in ambulatory care, which implies additional funding. The financial part of the hospital is extremely important to ensure its stability, Dr. Kondeva also pointed out. According to her, what will be the status of this hospital is subject to discussion, as well as ensuring continuity, since there are currently 13 medical facilities in Sofia providing services in the field of children's health.
It is proposed that the future children's hospital will be of the third level of competence, which will be able to perform complex diagnostic and treatment procedures. The report proposes that the hospital have 404 beds, of which 344 are conventional and 25 – for the needs of neonatology. 35 intensive care rooms are also planned.
