The claim that the chief prosecutor cannot be changed turned out to be false. The Prosecutor General is replaceable. Now there is an investigation mechanism, its functions are limited”. This was stated by the former prime minister and current constitutional judge Filip Dimitrov in “The Live Day” on NovaNews on the occasion of the decision of the Constitutional Court on the changes to the Basic Law.” What constitutes judicial reform is aimed at the rights of the prosecution and the position of the Attorney General – whether he is omnipresent, whether he can interfere everywhere and whether he can bear responsibility," Dimitrov said on the occasion of the changes.
He clarified that the Constitutional Court left in effect amendments that bind the Prosecutor's Office only to the criminal courts. “And they create certain limitations in the powers of the prosecutor's office, among which – the right to attack the ministers or acts on their own initiative is abolished, the range of cases in which they can participate only by virtue of a special provision is limited and the right of the Prosecutor General to exercise methodical guidance and supervision of the activities of the prosecutors”, said the constitutionalist.
He is adamant that the short list of names that could become caretaker prime minister cannot lead to a constitutional crisis.
