I don't think there will be a trade war between the USA and the European Union . The imposition of duty is a matter of reciprocity. This is not good for either side.
This is what MEP from GERB-SDS/EPP and member of the Committee on International Trade in the European Parliament Iliya Lazarov told "Focus".
From the previous term of Donald Trump, it is known that he is a supporter of the development of the US economy, especially of industry, manufacturing and the automobile industry, and is expected to enter into a sharp conflict with other world manufacturers, Lazarov said.
"This is done through the attempt to impose the duty. But it must not be forgotten that this is a two-way process. It is important for Europe to export to the US. He will also have problems with China in this direction, so it won't be that simple," the MEP believes.
According to him, a trade agreement between the USA and the European Union will be reached. "We will go in the direction of finding mutually beneficial interests and trade balance," Lazarov believes.
At the moment, the agreement with MERCOSUR is on the agenda of the Committee on International Trade, said the MEP, who is a member of this committee. "It causes a lot of controversy, especially in France, but also in Bulgaria there are affected interests. Relations with South America are very important in the future. They mainly affect farmers, poultry farmers, honey producers. So it's a balance – each commodity is looked at separately," he explained.
An agreement on the Western Balkans and the integration of the region is pending in the International Trade Commission, added the MEP.
In his words, the European Parliament is aware that contradictions between Bulgaria and North Macedonia do not exist. "North Macedonia just needs to fulfill the commitments it has made in order to start negotiations for membership in the European Union. All the political speculations made in Skopje by the rulers are frivolous. There is a political commitment that has been made, and it must be fulfilled. This is what the President of the European Commission Von Der Leyen said when he visited Skopje," Lazarov recalled.
According to him, the lack of a regular cabinet and political stability in Bulgaria will lead to the separation of our country from Romania on the way to Schengen. "Without a government, without stability in Bulgaria, this topic will be delayed. They will not keep Romania at the door because of us and they will untie us. And we will be to blame", Iliya Lazarov added.
