Sarafov: To be i.f. chief prosecutor in murky political times is not an easy task - 1

The Commission on Attestation and Competitions of the Prosecutorial College of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) accepted that Borislav Sarafov meets all the qualities to be elected chief prosecutor.

In the last five years, no disciplinary sanctions have been imposed on him. He was not investigated, but checks were launched based on the reports against him, which did not find any irregularities, according to reports on him presented at the commission's meeting.

Sarafov expressed his gratitude for his high evaluation. I'm making huge efforts and I'm glad that they don't go unnoticed, he pointed out.

To be i.f. attorney general in murky political times is no small task. I will spare no effort and myself to fulfill the mission and responsibility of leading the prosecutor's office in such a way that it benefits society, said Sarafov.

So far, three opinions have been received in support of Sarafov - from the association "Angels on the Road", from the University of Veliko Tarnovo and from the Jewish organization "Shalom".

In his concept, Sarafov is committed to countering organized crime, corruption crimes and those related to transport trauma and domestic violence. He expresses confidence that the prosecutor's office will be the initiator of joint actions with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, with the other special services and with the control institutions, proactively and as a result of its analytical activity motivating them to work more energetically and by giving a procedural focus to their work.< /p>

Borislav Sarafov highlights among his priorities the task of the prosecutor's office to receive the public trust it deserves and adds that he will do everything necessary to prevent the prosecutor's office from being used for political purposes.

The candidate states that he accepts the nomination for the position, motivated by his long professional experience – almost 30 years as an investigator and prosecutor in all levels of the system.

Borislav Sarafov says that the trust his colleagues have in him obliges him to take responsibility so that we don't “lose the positive momentum and direction in which we are going – to uphold the legality“.

On October 10, Borislav Sarafov was nominated as a candidate for chief prosecutor. The only proposal was made by Stefan Petrov, Plamen Naydenov and Svetlana Boshnakova during the last meeting of the Plenum of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), in which nominations for a new chief prosecutor can be made.

At the moment, Sarafov is the acting chief prosecutor, after the mandate of his predecessor Ivan Geshev was terminated early. His nomination was made on the last possible day determined by the chronogram for the procedure.
