The Bulgarian government approved the signing of an updated security cooperation agreement with Ukraine, the Council of Ministers announced.
The decision follows a previous approval of the project on October 4, 2024, when the cabinet gave the green light for negotiations with the Ukrainian side. The text was agreed within the framework of expert consultations between the two parties, with minimal updates and no significant changes compared to the original draft.
The new agreement reinforces Bulgaria's political commitment to support Ukraine in the context of ongoing Russian aggression. Bulgaria will join the "Compact for Ukraine" - an initiative approved at the NATO summit in Washington in July 2024
Cooperation includes specific bilateral arrangements in both the short and long term. The agreement emphasizes Ukraine's role in protecting the freedom, security and sovereignty of European countries, with Bulgaria remaining an active participant in international support efforts.
