"Toplofikatsia Sofia" has nearly 2 billion in liabilities. Things are critical. The accidents that happen are due to a lack of funds for the reconstruction of heating pipes and the heating plants themselves. This is what Ivan Takov said – chairman of BSP-Sofia and the local coalition of "BSP for Bulgaria" in the Metropolitan Municipal Council in the program "Morning in focus" on Radio "Focus" with host Asya Alexandrova.
According to him, there is a real risk that Sofia will be left without heating due to the problem with "Heating Sofia”. The problem has been swept under the carpet for a decade by the previous administration of GERB. "Terziev approaches in the same way. I found out from people from his team that for a year he has not seen the management of "Toplofication“, neither with the previous one, nor with the current one“, he stated.
The company is not working efficiently and neither is its management. "You see how many scandals there were over the years, with suspicions of draining the company. The modernization should have been carried out a long time ago with the called cogeneration to become "Heat“ much more effective“, added Ivan Takov.
He also commented on the introduction of a low-emission zone in the center of Sofia. He recalled that last year the BSP appealed this regulation in court, as it considers the measure to be ineffective and discriminatory. "Unfortunately, our arguments were once again not understood and heard and the appeal was rejected. This is a measure that was introduced rather to cover the eyes, since a few years ago Sofia was condemned because of the dirty air we breathe. They had to take some measures, and immediately went to the most restrictive one possible. It's so ridiculous what happened, and there are so many other alternatives before these restrictions are reached, that I can't believe how the new rulers have picked up on this right now and are waving it like a flag, commented the chairman of BSP-Sofia.
He pointed out that only on the first day of the restriction, more than 4,800 cars violated this ban. "A large part of them are from the countryside. By law, at the moment, these people can only be fined with a document that must be served personally. The measure itself is ineffective and will not improve air quality, he was categorical.
A much more effective measure, according to him, would be to wash the streets more often. "This street dust is the biggest pollutant and source of fine dust particles“, Takov added.
