The European Public Prosecutor's Office in Sofia has charged two managers of a Bulgarian company with fraud in a waste processing project in Asenovgrad, BNT reported.

According to the investigation, the suspects provided false information in order to obtain the order for the installation in question. The company received an advance payment of over 400 thousand euros for the project worth nearly 3 and a half million euros, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.

Following the revelations, the contract was terminated in April 2023, and the company refunded almost the entire advance payment. If found guilty, the suspects face sentences of 2 to 8 years in prison.
