Kozloduy NPP and the American Westinghouse Electric Company signed a contract for licensing nuclear fuel from the American company for the sixth unit of our nuclear power plant. The term of the contract is four years, the Bulgarian National Radio reported.
Minister of Energy Vladimir Malinov pointed out that this is part of the strategy in nuclear energy to provide alternatives.
"This does not represent a commitment for Bulgaria that we will purchase the fuel from "Westinghouse" and it is always good for Bulgaria, and even more so, for our nuclear energy to have an alternative. We have the opportunity to choose, most importantly perhaps the certainty that our nuclear power plant and existing reactors will continue to function for many years to come," he pointed out.
Minister Vladimir Malinov also said that the sixth unit of the plant is about to be partially loaded with fuel from the French Framatome, under the already signed 10-year contract, and in 2026 there will be test fuel cartridges from "Westinghouse".
The construction of new capacities at our nuclear power plant has also been discussed with the management of the American company.
