Epidemiologist Prof. Todor Kantardzhiev gave valuable advice on what we should and should not do during the flu season. “I expect the number of flu cases in Sofia to increase sharply, because we continue to see heroes in the malls - a coughing child and parents leading him by the hand“, said the doctor.
“In the third decade of January, there will be the most spread of the flu, as we said earlier. We expect the peak of the epidemic to be either the end of January or the beginning of February. The good thing is that two weeks later, cases will begin to decrease sharply, because the population will build collective immunity“, pointed out the epidemiologist.
Prof. Todor Kantardzhiev added that the most sick people are from influenza type A H3. But there are slightly more of those suffering from type A H1, the same values are observed with type B. “The same is true in the USA“, he specified.
“Sofia is slow in declaring a flu epidemic because, firstly, many more people live on its territory than are registered. The city is important and gives the overall vision of the epidemic situation in the country. The second reason is that there are many vaccinated people and the third - people are taking precautions“, the professor explained.
