MPs hear ministers and SANS chief about the ship "Vezhen" - 1

On Thursday, the Parliament will hear the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Transport, as well as SANS Chairman Plamen Tonchev, about the actions they have taken to resolve the international case with the Bulgarian ship "Vezhen".

The vessel was detained between the Latvian city of Vespils and the island of Gotland in Sweden. The Bulgarian ship is suspected of intentionally cutting a telecommunications cable running along the bottom of the Baltic Sea.

An investigation is currently underway in Sweden.

The Bulgarian crew, as well as members of the ship's crew, have not been detained. No arrests, no charges filed.

It is not ruled out that "Vezhen" damaged the cable in the Baltic Sea, but I do not believe that this was done intentionally. This was commented by Captain Alexander Kalchev - Executive Director of the "Bulgarian Navy" Shipping Company, who added that there was a strong storm on the night in question, and in the morning the crew discovered that one of the anchors had "leaked".
