After the tragedy in the disco in North Macedonia, Bulgaria reacted and began inspections of drinking establishments in our country. The results of some of them are already ready, NOVA reported. Out of a total of 260 discos in the country, 122 have been inspected. The Director of the General Directorate “Fire Safety and Population Protection” Alexander Dzhartov, however, stressed that this is done regularly. All inspected establishments met fire safety requirements. Violations were found in only 42 bars, but they are not serious.
Fines are most often imposed for stored combustible materials on evacuation routes or for lack of fire extinguishers. “People usually leave waste. Instead of dumping them in the regulated places, they store them for a certain time in evacuation sites, which is a violation. When more people are evacuated, panic usually sets in,” Dzhartov noted.
Institutions conduct regular inspections of establishments, which they sometimes know about in advance. However, surprise inspections are also carried out, the director of the GDPBZN emphasized. Sanctions for individuals are between 200 and 2,000 leva, and for legal entities - from 500 to 5,000.
