The Municipality of Burgas has removed an illegal object in the Sea Garden, the municipal press center announced. An order has been issued for the actions taken. It is a pavilion known as "Sponge".
The land on which the object was located is a park - the historical core of the Sea Garden – a cultural monument, public state property and was provided to the Municipality of Burgas for management in 2010.
On February 28, 2023, the deadline for its installation expired and from the next day an obligation arose for the object to be dismantled by the person to whom the permit was issued. Since then, an obligation to pay the specified fees for using the terrain has also accumulated. Despite this long period, no action has been taken to settle the obligations, which necessitated administrative intervention, the Municipality explained. They said that the facility has been expanded repeatedly over the years by installing additional elements on its body in a way that drastically does not correspond to its original vision. In this way, it does not fit into the overall appearance of the Sea Garden - one of the most visited and emblematic public spaces in the city.
A new pavilion will be placed in place of the old pavilion by the Municipality of Burgas. It will visually be of a shape and dimensions identical to those of the "Gabka" that existed over the years, will fully preserve the spirit and function of the space, but will meet modern requirements for safety and sustainability, the municipal administration noted.
The new facility will be accessible to all citizens and guests of the city, without violating the natural and cultural value of the Historical Core of the Sea Garden.
The facility will be managed by the Municipal Enterprise "Tourism" until the announcement of a public tender for its rental. Everyone who meets the regulatory requirements will be able to participate.
The Municipality of Burgas remains consistent in its efforts to protect public spaces from illegal construction and unmanaged use and to ensure that emblematic areas such as the Sea Garden are developed in the interest of all its residents and guests, the municipal press center indicates.
The "Gabkata" pavilion was one of the symbols of Burgas, which was placed at the entrance to the Sea Garden more than 50 years ago.
