For the third time, the Sofia City Court failed to proceed with the case against lawyer Petar Iliev, accused of a crime against copyright. He was brought to trial after the prosecutor's office accused him of using materials from the scientific work of Assoc. Prof. Natalia Kiselova without citing that they were hers.
The reason for the postponement of the hearing was a request received this morning from the Speaker of the 51st National Assembly Kiselova. She requested that the trial be postponed to another date, as she cannot appear due to official duties.
The chairman of the court gave prosecutor Lyudmila Nikolova a deadline to submit a statement on the requests of lawyer Stanislava Karakusheva, to disqualify the prosecutor and terminate the case due to the absence of a crime.
The next hearing in the case is in September.
We recall that on July 15 last year, the court did not proceed with the case because Iliev was not summoned regularly and on time. This happened five days before the hearing, out of the seven required by law. He indicated to the court that he had always been found by representatives of the judicial system and it is not clear why he was not summoned regularly for the case.
A preliminary hearing in the case was to be held on February 17, 2025. However, the Sofia City Court decided to raise a dispute before the Supreme Court of Cassation regarding the jurisdiction to hear the case against the defendant Iliev.
