Lena Borislavova: Our accession to the eurozone is now irreversible - 1

The MP from "We Continue the Change" Lena Borislavova commented on NOVA, quoted by news.bg, that the process of Bulgaria's accession to the eurozone is politically irreversible after the publication of the latest convergence reports, which confirm the country's full economic readiness.

According to her, the official date after which there is no turning back is July 8, 2025, when the EU Council must approve Bulgaria's membership in the eurozone, effective January 1, 2026.

Borislavova sharply criticized President Rumen Radev for his "inconsistent" position on the eurozone. According to her, the head of state until recently claimed that there was no need for a referendum on the topic, and now he is demonstrating the opposite position, questioning the country's readiness. She expressed doubt that this change in position may be related to future political projects after the end of the presidential term.

The PP MP confirmed that the formation will submit a vote of no confidence in the government, but not before July 8, so as not to jeopardize the process of entering the eurozone. "We will keep our promise to the voters and use all parliamentary mechanisms to be a corrective to the government," Borislavova said.

She indicated that talks are forthcoming within the coalition on the topic of a possible vote. Among the motives considered are conquered institutions, lack of a real fight against corruption, as well as the sweeping away of scandals - including the case of "Holding Orion" and business activities related to Hristo Kovachki.

From Borislavova's words, it became clear that there is a discrepancy in the time horizon between "We Continue the Change" and their coalition partner "Democratic Bulgaria". While the PP insists on immediate action after July 8, the DB was more cautious, allowing for possible action only in September.

When asked about contact with other political formations, including the "Velicie" party, Borislavova emphasized that no official negotiations have been held and that the first talks will be with the DB partners. She ruled out the possibility of cooperation with "Vazrazhdane" or GERB, emphasizing that Borisov "is not used to having a real opposition".

Borislavova described as "absurd" Boyko Borisov's claim that the PP-DB sabotaged the introduction of the euro through political attacks. She recalled that it was during the GERB government in 2020 that Bulgaria did not meet the inflation and budget deficit criteria. In contrast, according to her, the caretaker cabinet of Asen Vassilev in 2021 and the government of Kiril Petkov in 2022 took concrete steps on the path to the eurozone.
