„Hungary maintains good relations with Bulgaria. But in principle, it pursues its own interests, which go beyond the boundaries of mutual trust. This mainly applies to Hungarian actions in the Republic of North Macedonia. The way Orban acts in Skopje is reminiscent of Austria-Hungary, which is trying to compete with Bulgaria in this region. In Skopje, politicians believe that the relationship with Hungary can help them move faster towards the EU. This is a rather chimerical notion”.
This was stated to NOVA NEWS by the co-chair of the historical commission, Prof. Angel Dimitrov, who was ambassador to Skopje and Belgrade.
Regarding Hristiyan Mickovski's remarks against Bulgarian Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev, Angel Dimitrov commented: “When there are two opposing positions and one side does not have serious arguments, it compensates for them with slander, insinuations and personal insults”. Prof. Dimitrov does not expect Mickovski to apologize.
The next meeting of the historical commission is in September in Sofia.
He also commented on the situation in Serbia and President Aleksandar Vučić. “Recently, nationalism has been embracing Yugoslavism, which we can call Serbomania”, commented Prof. Dimitrov.
