Bulgarian students triumph at the International Chemistry Olympiad in Dubai

The best Bulgarian chemistry students performed excellently and won four medals at the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO), dariknews.bg reported.

At the most prestigious chemistry competition of the year, Bulgarians won one gold, one silver and two bronze medals, the Association of Olympic Science Teams reported.

This year, the 57th International Chemistry Olympiad took place from July 5 to 14 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It brought together the best 360 high school students from 90 countries.

The gold medal was won by Damyan Ivanov (10th grade, Sofia Mathematical High School (SMG). The silver medal was won by Viktor Angelov (12th grade, SMG). The bronze medals went to Nikola Ninkov (11th grade, SMG) and Teodor Kusev (11th grade, National Natural Sciences and Mathematics High School (NPMG).

The leaders of the Bulgarian national team are Assoc. Prof. Dr. Donka Tasheva and Prof. Dr. Penka Vasileva from the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy (FCH) of Sofia University (SU) "St. Kliment Ohridski".

With this year's medals, Bulgaria has so far won 123 medals (14 gold, 28 silver and 81 bronze) from the International Mathematical Olympiad. chemistry.

The International Chemistry Olympiad was first held in 1968 in Czechoslovakia. The participants in the Bulgarian national team are selected from among the best-ranked participants in the National Round of the Chemistry and Environmental Protection Olympiad. Bulgaria hosted the Olympiad in 1973 and 1981.
