It is a problem when we are governed by people who abuse alcohol and substances. There has been a threefold increase in overdose deaths last year. Addiction is a disease, political addiction is also a disease. This was said by the director of the State Psychiatric Hospital "St. Ivan Rilski" Dr. Tsvetislava Galabova in the studio of "Denyat ON AIR".
In her words, the mental illness "addiction" leads to a quick and early social death.
"Addiction to drugs and alcohol, and not infrequently to gambling, ends in three places - psychiatry, prison, cemeteries", added Dr. Galabova on the air of Bulgaria ON AIR.

"They convince us that 1 billion leva is an estimated value and it will almost certainly fall below it - something that I do not believe. I have been fighting for a new Psychiatric Hospital for 15 years. Ever since these continuous talks have been taking place and health ministers have changed, I have been asking myself the same question - why does the ECB or the EIB have to tell us what we need. I can't believe that our health ministers don't know. Why has the construction of a children's hospital become such a problem that it has grown bigger?", the doctor asked.
The expert is of the opinion that when a value estimate is given, it does not exceed more than 15 to 20% of the real price.
"If we subtract 15-20% from 1 billion leva, it is again a lot of money. In the estimated values, I read that the furniture will cost over 1 million leva, excluding VAT, what is this furniture? And here we are not talking about the equipment, we are talking about lockers, wardrobes, beds. Something is wrong, they are lying to us, they are lying to us a lot", commented Dr. Tsvetislava Galabova.
We lack prevention
According to her, our health system is extremely flawed.
"Our health system profits from illness. That is why there is such a frantic opening of beds, everyone wants beds. We must turn the focus on the healthy person and preserving his health. The most expensive prevention and prophylaxis is cheaper than the cheapest treatment. We do not have prophylaxis and prevention. Our country is seething and seething with scandals. Doctors and nurses are burning out. They are developing professional burnout, for which there is no cure," she added.
Dr. Galabova revealed that political leaders are calling her to seek help for doctors.
"They can no longer find doctors - MPs, ministers, people in very high government positions. The situation is dramatic. Entire wards are being closed in large municipal hospitals. The average age of nurses is 59 years," she is categorical.
