This is new for Bulgaria, it has existed in many countries of the European Union for years, said the chairman of the State Agency for Road Safety in the program "Face to Face" on BTV in connection with the launched systematic measurement of the average speed of movement on about 50 road sections. The measure is enshrined in the changes to the Road Traffic Act that were finally adopted on Wednesday.
Krumova specified that the control is carried out using the formula known since school: speed is equal to the distance traveled divided by time, and added: "There are certain criteria for the average speed, such as that the distance between the two points between which the speed is detected should not be too large, as well as homogeneity of the speed. With this measure, we aim to encourage homogeneous, reasonable movement".
Everyone who passes through these two points will be measured, but a fine will only be imposed when someone exceeds the permitted speed, she explained.
It is important that the fines are increasing. which are for extremely risky behavior. For example, when passing a red traffic light, the fine, which was previously very low, is increasing to 150 leva. For violations related to alcohol and drugs, the fine is increased and the license is revoked, said the head of the State Agency for Road Safety.
The important thing about this law is that the effectiveness of control is increased - on the one hand, the average speed, and secondly, the connection of the cameras of the municipalities with those of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Another very important point is the connection of the toll cameras with the sanctions system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, said Malina Krumova.
