"My commitments have greatly diminished. For the moment I am "persona non grata" and I am zeroed out everywhere. Everything ended in an instant. Things that you try to build for years, collapse in just a second. I don't understand who has an interest in doing all these things. Someone is definitely pushing me to go to prison. Probably because I haven't been to the barracks. That's probably why they're trying to make me serve this time. A year and six months is a serious period." This is what he told "Trud" actor Dimo Aleksiev, after being sentenced to a year and a half in prison for drunk driving.
The sentence was pronounced the day after he turned 42.
At the end of 2024, the popular artist and TV presenter was caught in his car with 1.68 per mille of alcohol in his blood. Before the court, Aleksiev stated several times that when the police came to ask for his documents for inspection, he was standing in his car with the engine off and was rummaging through his phone to order a taxi.
The sentence was pronounced yesterday by the Sofia District Court, and the decision can be appealed to a higher instance.
Dimo Aleksiev does not deny that he consumed alcohol on the evening in question, but is categorical that he did not drive drunk. He already has a suspended sentence for drunk driving, and that's why the court has now handed down an effective sentence, especially since the actor was still on probation last year. Even when the actor was detained, suspicions arose that he had been drugged by a colleague who knew his route that evening and was aware that Dimo was filming a cooking show during which he would consume alcohol.
"I'm glad for everyone who stayed behind me. A lot of the people who call themselves friends dropped out naturally. In practice, this “cleansing“ that happened is probably the only positive thing about the whole situation. But, anyway, there are too many negatives," Dimo Aleksiev also said.
