The Minister of Education and Science closed eight schools a few days ago at the suggestion of municipalities. The former primary schools are in small settlements in Targovishte, Shumen, Ruse, Haskovo and Burgas. Since the practice of leaving Bulgarian villages without an educational institution does not stop and 1,500 schools have been closed over the past 35 years,
„Vazrazhdane“ will use its right of legislative initiative and propose an amendment to the Preschool and School Education Act that would halt this process of school closures.
During a regular meeting of the Education and Science Committee, the MP from “Vazrazhdane“ Angel Yanchev stated that before the second vote on proposals for amendments and supplements to the School Act, their political organization will propose a legal ban on the Minister of Education and Science from issuing orders closing schools before a three-year period in which educational institutions that are the only ones in a settlement are not restored through a special government program that would remove them from the system of delegated budgets.
