The changes to the Criminal Code are now in force, increasing the penalties for violations committed by drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs. They provide for 12 to 20 years in prison for particularly serious cases and 13 to 25 years or life imprisonment for causing death on the road. Fines are also increasing drastically.
This was warned by BNT.
There is now criminal liability for refusing to undergo testing in the event of an accident - from one year in prison and a fine of 2,500 leva.
Strict rules are also being introduced for electric scooters - they will only be able to be ridden during daylight hours, by persons over 16 years of age, with a helmet and "Third Party Liability" insurance. The sanctions range from 50 to 500 leva.
The control of average speed through toll cameras is now in effect. Municipal cameras will also be able to detect violations, with local authorities receiving 50% of the fines imposed, BNT reported. The annual technical inspection of the car will be possible if all criminal fines and slips of the car owner have been paid.
