"Once again I call - do not light fires in the open". This is what the Minister of Interior Daniel Mitov wrote on Facebook.
He notes that just 72 hours after the residents of the village of Ploski returned to their homes after the severe fire in Pirin, a drone of the Ministry of Interior filmed an elderly man burning dry grass in his yard. According to Mitov, thanks to the timely response of the teams, the fire did not manage to spread. The minister added that the violator has been issued a report and is about to be fined.
Mitov points out that this is happening at a time when five fire brigades, together with forest officials and volunteers, continue their round-the-clock actions to fully control and secure the terrain. Fires continue to smolder deep on the site - every spark can turn into a new disaster, the minister added.
The minister points out that 90% of forest fires are caused by human negligence. The interior minister states that burning dry grass, barbecues or cleaning with fire in such conditions is not only dangerous, but also illegal, and high temperatures and wind create ideal conditions for the rapid and uncontrollable spread of flames.
"One spark is enough to set everything on fire - homes, forests, lives. "Do not put at risk the work of generations, the safety of your loved ones and the future of our nature," the Interior Minister also urges.
