Yana Stratieva: The Supply Chain Law is against consumers, it has been brought to the point of absurdity - 1

The decrease in the price of the consumer basket is a temporary phenomenon. There is a lot of psychological tension, but there is no real problem in the market. There is great euphoria around the euro. This was stated by Vladimir Ivanov, Chairman of the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Markets, on BNT.

Yana Stratieva, association “Food and Beverage Bulgaria”, emphasized: “The Supply Chain Law, which has been uploaded for public discussion again, is worrying. We tried to organize a round table to warn the community and seek dialogue with the relevant ministry that the law is dangerous and will lead to a lack of goods on the market. The state does not like how the profit is distributed in the chain, so the law decides that it will guarantee agricultural producers a 10% profit, while limiting the ability of everyone else to cover their costs.”

“There is indeed a problem in the distribution chain. There are unfair players, there are people who are subject to pressure. The main problem is cooperation. It is important that there is a conversation on the topic, and many producers are looking for a way to reach the market faster”, Ivanov believes.

”There is no debate on this law. There are particularly worrying texts. There is a ceiling on promotions. Even those that are made in the normal world – when fruits and vegetables start to spoil, at the end of the day, they will already be banned. 80% of dairy products should be Bulgarian – given that the ministry has not issued a report on how much of these products we produce. This creates a risk of not having any. If there are no Bulgarian fruits and vegetables, there will be no apples in the stores, for example, if there is no good harvest. The whole law is against the consumer, it has been brought to the point of absurdity”, Stratieva also believes.
