"Currently, sales under this program (for exercising rights over state properties - ed. note) are not taking place, as a number of departments and municipalities have declared their desire to acquire properties that are no longer needed for their needs" - this is stated in a position of the Council of Ministers, which states that it was sent "in connection with the latest political speculations".

The Council of Ministers will propose that the Program for Exercising Rights Over Properties - state property, and over properties - property of state public enterprises, be approved by the National Assembly. In addition, the government will propose to the National Assembly to adopt a decision not to sell state-owned properties under the Program until its approval by the Parliament.

The Cabinet points out that the program was adopted by the Government as a step towards responsible management of state property for the purpose of predictability, publicity and efficiency. According to Appendix 2, preparation of an Indicative List of properties - state property, the need for which has ceased to exist has begun. The same list is publicly available for the purpose of full transparency and public awareness and is in the process of being developed, completed and refined, the Government notes.

In order to prevent the spread of lies and suggestions for political use, the Council of Ministers proposes to the National Assembly to responsibly consider and discuss the proposed decision and vote on it.

Earlier today, the group of "Save Sofia" gave a press conference at which they asked the cabinet to provide properties in the capital from the list of properties with no longer needed. They warned that "Sofian residents will rise up in protest if the state does not reconsider its decision to sell off state-owned properties in Sofia".

The Sofia Municipal Council adopted a report demanding that the state provide the Sofia Municipality with 30 properties, part of the 4,400 properties announced for privatization due to “no longer needed” by the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works. On June 24, the department published a list with current information on the implementation of the Program for the Exercise of Rights on State-Owned Properties, which was adopted by the government on May 8, 2025, but as of today, the list is no longer on the ministry's website.

From “Continuing the Change“ commented that in their opinion this is "passing the ball" to the National Assembly, after the party began "illuminating the scandalous scheme of the "Zhelyazkov" cabinet for the sale of 4,400 state properties".

"The question then arises why on the last day of the National Assembly's work before the vacation the ruling majority had to quickly and without a quorum adopt amendments to the State Property Act, which would give the green light for the mass sale of pieces of Bulgaria. "We continue the Change" "We are categorical that we will not give up the fight for every piece of Bulgarian land and against every decision of the government that harms Bulgarian citizens," the position further states.

The PP is also collecting signatures against the "scandalous sale of properties", intending to submit a resolution to the National Assembly that prohibits the sale.
