The Ministry of Health is granting another 2600 leva to the money of young medical trainees, through a project to encourage specialization in areas with a shortage of doctors, announced Health Minister Silvi Kirilov. An additional 26.5 million leva has been provided for this purpose from the Human Resources Development Program. According to the protesting trainees, the measure does not solve the problem and they remain on protest alert.
The Minister of Health calculated the financial effect for trainees in minimum wages. “Over 300 young doctors, dentists, nurses and midwives will be supported. Each approved candidate will receive 2.5 MRP or in leva - over 2600 per month to their basic salaries. The additional financial resource will allow the inclusion of all 111 residents from the waiting list, which was formed in the previous two competitions,“ he said, quoted by BNT.
According to the protesting young doctors, the measure is insufficient.
“It is certainly not something that satisfies our demands, it does not affect our demands in full, which we very briefly expressed“, said resident Vasilena Chiara.
In this case, this will affect 10% of residents. If we do some rough calculations, 500 people start specialization every year, 2500 in 5 years, and it only affects 50. Not to mention that we have received information that even before this, these subsidies reach the hospital directors, but for some residents this money is not enough“.
The resident doctors expect a meeting at the Ministry of Health by the end of the week to find a general solution to the problem, while maintaining their protest readiness.
