Prof. Rachev: Slow grill will "roast" Bulgarians - 1

„Dubious, dry and very warm weather awaits us over the weekend. The 14-day forecast is also meager and boring“. This was commented on „This Morning“ by bTV climatologist Prof. Georgi Rachev.

According to data from the European agency „Copernicus“ July 2024 was the third hottest since the beginning of meteorological observations - half a degree above the average values for the period 1991-2020.

„It is worrying that the previous two first places are from 2023 and 2024 – "we have three consecutive years with temperature records," said Prof. Rachev.

In Japan, a record temperature of 41.8°C was measured in the city of Insesaki, and in Hong Kong - 360 l/sq m of precipitation fell in one day - more than half of the average annual rate for Sofia, the climatologist also announced.

At the same time, southern France is fighting its biggest fire in decades - 170 thousand acres near Perpignan have already been burned. It is also above 30 degrees in London.

„Hot, hot, hot", commented Prof. Rachev and described the situation in Europe and in Bulgaria as "slow grill".

According to him, temperatures in Bulgaria on Monday could reach 39-40 degrees.

„A 10-15-day heat wave begins today. Temperatures in Bulgaria will remain high, without reaching the extreme 42-43°C of two weeks ago, but the heat will be constant", the climatologist pointed out.

„There is no precipitation. In strong winds, every spark – from a motorbike, car or a pirate – "it ignites a fire that cannot be controlled until it burns everything down," warned Prof. Rachev.

According to him, more villages and towns will switch to a water regime.

"This is the third month in which precipitation is not just scarce, but absent", noted the climatologist.
