Today is the holiday of our Navy - the 146th anniversary of our battle fleet is celebrated. It dates back to 1879, when it was created in Ruse under the name "Danube Flotilla and Naval Unit", and in 1899 the headquarters was located in Varna, bTV recalls.
„We continue to witness the war between Russia and Ukraine, and in the Black Sea it is right next to us. The fleet takes part in the fight against the mine threat – to keep our sea spaces safe and free for navigation", said Rear Admiral Kiril Mihaylov, Commander of the Navy.
„With the adoption of new equipment, the fleet is becoming more attractive, because young people see that by joining the navy, they get a secure career, but they are not far from the technologies in the world. We are happy with the interest“, he also said.
According to him, in recent years we have observed good growth in the development of the fleet in terms of technological renewal.
„We have received systems for anti-submarine operations, for autonomous underwater systems, we are also developing the people who have to use them“, Rear Admiral Mihaylov also pointed out.
